Small Steps

Small Steps

Since my last post I have taken a few small steps toward the three short term goals I set last week.  I researched and made an initial list of locations in the Colorado Springs area to highlight in my forthcoming travel book.  I also researched and downloaded some initial material on building and teaching a computer literacy class. Unfortunately, relative to my third goal of getting aggressive on learning Spanish I made minimal progress.   Two out of three is not bad, but I know I can do better.

Over the course of my life I have read or listened to several self improvement books and cassette tapes.  I am dating myself a little by referencing tapes, more recently I have listened to CDs, and podcasts and reviewed content online.  Anyway, some of the people I admire most are Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, Zig Ziglar, and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale to name a few.

It is interesting to know that the majority of them state something to the effect of “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”  Zig Ziglar.  Others state in order to get what you want or find your passion you should start by giving to a cause selflessly or creating something for free and in doing so the universe will respond in helping you obtain your desires.  As a result I intend to provide my computer literacy class for free.  I also want to research doing the class in Spanish as well as english to assist me with my other goal of learning spanish.

Also, a majority of the books I have read to include the LYL website state in order to accomplish your goals you need to define WHY they are important to you.  With a big enough WHY you can accomplish anything.

So relative to my three short term goals here are my why’s.  First I want to create a travel book about Colorado Springs to help other people new or visiting the area discover new places and have a handy reference for planning weekend or family outings.   When we first moved here I did a lot of trial and error to find cool things to do with my family and it would have been helpful to have a handy reference of the not so obvious things to do in and around the vicinity of Colorado Springs.

Concerning teaching a computer literacy class, I have discovered one of my passions is teaching and I love technology so it seems like a natural fit to explore two of my passions by giving freely of myself to help people learn some valuable skills and have fun.

Lastly, regarding my goal to become fluent in Spanish, I am of Hispanic descent and as a way to honor my parents and ancestors I feel it is important to learn the language.  I have had several classes in Spanish and I love speaking the language, but I am often restricted in how much I can communicate because of my limited vocabulary.

So there you go or here I am. What are your short term goals and your WHYs?  It would be great to know how you are approaching your goals and who your favorite motivational self help speakers are.
